Dwight Braswell: Conversations That Make a Leader

Dwight Braswell is the founder of Complete Leadership Academy and Flag Football with Coach D. Through his Manager vs. Leader teaching, he helps managers and business owners lead people with clearer conversations, practical coaching, and shared ownership.

Dwight’s dad, a retired Air Force colonel, spent time giving Dwight leadership scenarios that they unpacked together. Dwight began leading early. At 17, after becoming a top salesperson, he was promoted to supervise a team of 12. His background includes leadership roles at MCI, Zillow, and Trulia; keynote speaking for McDonald’s general managers; leadership development with Rocky Mountain Ace Stores (Ace Hardware); and training for Army National Guard recruiters. He has spent more than 12 years consulting and owns multiple businesses with teams around the world, bringing an operator’s perspective to the challenges he teaches.

With an MBA in Organizational Leadership, Dwight focuses on what leaders can use in their next conversation. Through customized keynotes, workshops, coaching, and reinforcement tools, he helps people set expectations, give useful feedback, navigate difficult conversations, and build ownership with the people doing the work.

His practical resources include Say THIS, Not THAT and Coach THIS, Not THAT. His 3Cs framework (Curiosity, Clarity, and Co-Creation) gives leaders a repeatable way to understand a situation, define what matters, and involve people in the next step. Dwight also brings a performance background to his work. He spent years as a professional actor and musician and appeared in HBO’s The Pacific. Today, he focuses on helping leaders turn useful ideas into everyday behaviors that strengthen their teams.

Interviewed by Winn Claybaugh, Dwight does not speak in riddles; he is very clear on how everyday leadership can look, what brings out the best in a team, and what creates true loyalty. He rejects the “old school” leadership style of dictating, controlling, and micromanaging, which does not feel good and does not work. Dwight wants leaders to practice humility and engagement, ask more questions, and invite ownership.
