Celebrity blonding expert Kim Vo shot to fame on ABC’s Extreme Makeover as the official on-camera hairstylist, followed by his “Ambush Makeover” segment on E! Entertainment’s The Daily 10. Kim also appeared as the on-camera color judge on Bravo’s Shear Genius and as a premiere hairstylist for Access Hollywood’s “Makeover Mondays.:
Born in Vietnam and raised in Europe, Kim settled in Los Angeles where he created a line of haircare products and opened his namesake salon. His haircare tips have appeared in countless national magazines, including Glamour, Elle, O, American Salon, and Vogue, which dubbed him the “best blonder in the business.”
Despite his legendary success, Kim stayed true to his roots and could usually be found working on his product line or in his salon, chatting up his clients while skillfully navigating their hair to exactly what they wanted. Flocking to Kim for both his talent and his humble warmth, his longtime clients (some as loyal as 20 years) included A-list celebrities Gwyneth Paltrow, Uma Thurman, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn, Katherine Heigl, Mischa Barton, Alicia Silverstone, Camila Alves, Heather Locklear, Pamela Anderson, Morgan Fairchild, and Paris and Nicky Hilton, to name just a few.
Interviewed by Winn Claybaugh in 2006, Kim described his early life and shared his recipe for success, which included working hard and staying true to himself. Sadly, Kim lost his battle with cancer in 2026. He will always be remembered for his generosity, teaching, and passion for hairdressing.
