Lizzie Velasquez is one of only three known people in the world with a medical syndrome that doesn’t allow her to gain weight or create muscle. Cruelly dubbed “The World’s Ugliest Woman” in a YouTube video that was seen by over 4 million viewers when she was only 17 years old, Lizzie set out to discover what truly makes people beautiful. “After spending years wanting to look like everyone else, I realized I needed to love and accept myself just as I am,” Lizzie says. “When I stopped listening to other people and started making a life for myself, I discovered my purpose in life, my passion.”
Now Lizzie shares what she learned on that journey, teaching others to recognize their own unique gifts and blessings, deal with disappointment, make and maintain healthy friendships, and set realistic goals. A bright, bubbly graduate of Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, Lizzie is now a motivational speaker, anti-bullying activist, popular YouTube star, and the author of two books: Lizzie Beautiful and Be Beautiful, Be You. Her story was featured in the 2015 documentary, A Brave Heart, and in national and international media, including The Today Show, Inside Edition, People magazine, and Dr. Drew. Her 2013 TEDxTalk has attained more than 9 million views to date, and her YouTube videos have received over 54 million views – far more than the heartless video that set her career in motion.
In a world filled with airbrushed celebrity photos and plastic surgery, Lizzie Velasquez is a refreshing force of nature whose story will inspire anyone who has ever felt singled out, misunderstood, or afraid-and who hasn’t? MASTERS host Winn Claybaugh says, “During this interview, Lizzie had me laughing, crying, and left with the feeling that I could conquer the world. Listen in and let Lizzie do the same for you!”
